Information on Leitrim

This county is relatively small, but it is full of lakes (Lough Allen runs through the middle), rivers, hills and marshes. The capital of the county, Carrick-on-Shannon is a good starting point for your visit.

You can sail on the river, fish, enjoy bicycle tours or walk - why not try out horseriding or golf. It is indeed a place for enthusiastic amateurs of fishing and of boats as the boat club goes back to 1827 and each year in August a regatta is organized. Therefore, this is a fisherman's paradise - with its 41 lakes and the river Shannon - which hosts a great number of National and International Fishing Contests, bream, mullet, tench, eels and trout.

There are also 528km of inland waterways which offer a spectacle of fauna and flora. It is a place you dream about to spend your holidays with your family or with friends - we call this county "the fishermens paradise"!
